This vintage of Dubost Rosé comes from the Worth Hill Vineyard. These monster head-trained vines were picked in mid-August just before a relentless heat wave in Paso Robles that saw triple digits for about 24 days. In better vintage climates these grapes would have held out for another couple of weeks and achieved the more common maturity and 14% alcohol associated with riper flavors and less malic acid. However, with rosé and the less ripeness or more ripeness dilemma, erroring on the side of less sugar and more crisp flavors yields a wonderfully tightly spun and bright wine, one that showcases both its finesse and beauty in light-bodied nature and dominates the palette with its searing acid and tannin. A rich complexity creeps in on the lingering finish accentuating and complimenting the strong alpine strawberry and tropical fruit aromas. A mixture of two lots, two different styles, one wine with no skin contact and one with 24 hours of skin contact, creating a beautiful medium pink color in the glass.
